The Democratic nominee in one of the party's targeted House races in New Jersey is running even with her Republican opponent, according to an internal Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee poll obtained by CQ Roll Call.

Burlington County Freeholder Aimee Belgard led Republican insurance company owner Tom MacArthur, 43 percent to 42 percent. The automated poll found 15 percent of voters remain undecided with a little more than a month to go until Election Day.

The survey of 603 likely voters was conducted Sept. 27-28 and had a 4-point margin of error.

The new numbers illustrated a 4-point drop for MacArthur from a DCCC poll conducted two weeks earlier . The Republican led that one, 46 percent to 43 percent.

With GOP Rep. Jon Runyan retiring, New Jersey's 3rd District, which President Barack Obama carried by 5 points in 2012, is a top Democratic pickup opportunity. It runs from the Philadelphia suburbs and heads east to the New Jersey coastline.

The DCCC is spending heavily on the television airwaves to paint MacArthur as a wealthy businessman whose insurance company cheated disaster victims out of money . MacArthur is also on air with attack ads that say Belgard raised taxes and lied about her pledge to take a salary as a freeholder.

New Jersey’s 3rd District is rated Tilts Republican by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
