American Bridge Targets Vulnerable Republicans on Russia

Focuses on Republican members in districts that voted for Hillary Clinton

Liberal super PAC American Bridge 21st Century is targeting three vulnerable Republicans to push for an independent commission to investigate Russian ties to President Donald Trump’s administration.

The group has been making a series of videos highlighting connections between members of Trump’s campaign team and his administration and Russia.

On Friday, American Bridge released an ad detailing former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia.

Flynn resigned in February after it was revealed he had lied about his communications with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak. The ad also highlights the money Flynn received from Russian television network RT.

The video will be played in the districts of Republican Reps. Martha McSally of Arizona, John Katko of New York, and Will Hurd of Texas.

All three members represent districts that voted for Hillary Clinton over Trump, according to an analysis by liberal website the Daily Kos.

“Republicans in Congress are refusing to join calls for an independent commission to investigate this scandal and ensure transparency and accountability,” the ad says.

The group already released radio ads targeting the three vulnerable Republicans.

The ad does distort some facts though, when it plays a clip from Fox News saying that Flynn registered as a foreign agent retroactively. Flynn registered for work he and his firm were doing for the Turkish government, not for Russia.

Hurd, a former CIA officer, has previously said on National Public Radio it was “very clear” Russian intelligence was behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
