Montana Sen. Jon Tester’s nephew was apparently murdered with an ax at his house Tuesday while his 8-year-old daughter was also at home, according to local media reports.

The body of Bob Tester, 35, was found in his blood-spattered Spokane, Washington, home on Tuesday, The Spokesman-Review reported. Bags of marijuana were found near the body, according to court documents. Tester reportedly grew marijuana and sold it to dispensaries.

The senator’s office confirmed his relationship with the victim, saying, “His family would prefer privacy during this difficult time.”

Bob Tester's daughter told the authorities that she was in bed with her father when a man entered the house and awakened them, armed with a "sword and a knife," according to court documents. She said the man told her to stay in bed because he was going to kill her father. Police found an ax covered in blood near the body.

The daughter likely didn't witness the murder, a deputy said, but called her grandmother to tell her about the killing, the newspaper reported.
