Kelsey Knight has been hired as communications director for Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich. She was communications director for Mitt Romney’s campaign in Michigan. She also has worked as special assistant for media affairs at The Chertoff Group and as a press assistant for Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Texas. Knight was executive assistant to the domestic policy adviser at the White House under President George W. Bush, a press intern for former first lady Laura Bush and a media affairs intern at the Defense Department during the Bush administration.
Daniel Mauer has been promoted to legislative director for Rep. George Miller, D-Calif. He was legislative assistant. He also has served as a legislative assistant on the Democratic Staff of the House Financial Services Committee and as a legislative correspondent for Rep. Al Green, D-Texas. Mauer was the campaign manager of Rhode Island state Senate race for Democrat Patrick Schmitt.
Demetrios Marantis has been promoted to acting U.S. trade representative. Marantis is the deputy U.S. trade representative. He has served as chief international trade counsel for the Democratic staff of the Senate Finance Committee. He has also worked as chief legal adviser for the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council and as associate general counsel in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
Sanjay Subrahmanyam has been named as the Kluge Chair in Countries and Cultures of the South at the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress. Subrahmanyam is a professor at the University of California at Los Angeles. He is the founding director of the school’s Center for India and South Asia. He also has taught at the University of Oxford, in Paris at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales and at the Delhi School of Economics.
Markham Erickson has been hired as a partner in the telecom, internet and media practice at the law firm Steptoe & Johnson. He is general counsel to the Internet Association, a trade group, was a founding partner at Holch & Erickson and was a partner at McGuiness & Holch.
Carolyn L. Booker has been hired as senior vice president for educational pathways at the American Dental Educational Association. She is the associate dean of students and administrative faculty affairs and an associate professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s school of dentistry.
Valerie DeFillipo has been named director of the global partnership at The Family Planning 2020 Reference Group. She is currently president of the Friends of the United Nations Population Fund. She was vice president and portfolio manager at Abt Associates in international health. She also has worked as director of external affairs at the International Planned Parenthood Federation. She was senior director of Planned Parenthood global partners at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Meredith Ward has been hired as a senior policy analyst at the National Association of State Chief Information Officers. Ward was the manager of legislative and media affairs for the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Ali Amirhooshmand has been named a director of federal government affairs the Entertainment Software Association, a trade group. Amirhooshmand was a co-founder and principal at Seward Square Group, a lobbying and consulting firm. He has worked as a senior vice president at law and lobbying firm Cassidy & Associates and an attorney at Greenberg Traurig. He has several years of experience on Capital Hill, most recently as a policy adviser to then-Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.
Danielle Rodman also been named a director of federal government affairs at the Entertainment Software Association. Rodman was a senior legislative assistant to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., and worked as a Democratic staff assistant for the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. She also was a staff assistant and legislative analyst at Women’s Policy, Inc.
