Reps. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) and Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) don’t share too many political views or votes.
But that didn’t stop Lowey from condemning today what she called the “sexist treatment” Bachmann received when she appeared on the NBC talk show “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.”
The Roots, the show’s house band, played a portion of a song titled “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” by the funk-ska band Fishbone as Bachmann walked on stage. (Though Bachmann wouldn’t have known it because they didn’t sing any lyrics except for “la la la.”)
“The choice of song to introduce Michele Bachmann on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ last night was insulting and inappropriate,” Lowey said in a statement.
“I do not share Michele Bachmann’s politics, but she deserves to be treated with respect. No female politician — and no woman — should be subjected to sexist and offensive innuendo like she was last night,” she added.
Lowey called on the Roots to apologize, which at least one of them reportedly did.
