The size of the ad buy on national cable television is in the “low six figures” for the month, according to someone familiar with the effort. It will include ads against other targeted Members also.
The ad against Tipton hits him on ethics issues and ends with the tagline, “Tipton’s got to go.” The announcer in the ad accuses Tipton of “channeling Congressional funds to his family’s business,” citing a June Denver Post story in an on-screen graphic.
Republicans pushed back against the spot. “It’s no surprise that House Democrats are inventing a fictional controversy in an attempt to discredit anyone who stands up to their reckless Washington spending spree and job-killing agenda,” National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Tyler Houlton said in a statement. “House Democrats made the American economy worse and will do anything to distract voters from their failed record.”
