Nebraska: Crossroads Hits Bob Kerrey in New Radio Ads

The conservative group American Crossroads has begun an $80,000 radio ad buy against former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D) on Nebraska radio stations. The ad hits on persistent themes Republicans have been using in their case against Kerrey. Those include Kerrey’s New York City residence, his support for health care reform, tying him to retiring Sen. Ben Nelson (D) and accusations of “backroom deals” with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to entice Kerrey to run for Senate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-r6ZFGVxa8 The ads will air today through Monday. The national group’s ad narrator asks, “Hasn’t Nebraska been embarrassed enough?” And then describes any sort of deal with Reid as “not the Nebraska way.” Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, Reid denied that any such deal was cut. The frontrunner on the GOP side is state Attorney General Jon Bruning. State Treasurer Don Stenberg and state Sen. Deb Fischer are also running for the party’s nomination. The Democratic field recently cleared for Kerrey. Roll Call rates the Nebraska Senate race as Leans Republican.
