Potential Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee endorsed Florida state Senate President Mike Haridopolos (R) in his campaign to unseat Sen. Bill Nelson (D).
“Mike Haridopolos has a tremendous record of conservative leadership in Florida,” the former Arkansas governor said in a YouTube video released Thursday.
Huckabee said Haridopolos, who just wrapped up a contentious legislative session, was someone who actually “walked the walk” on conservative issues.
Haridopolos hopes to emphasize the substance of his accomplishments in the Legislature and contrast his active political leadership with the other candidates. He faces former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner and former Sen. George LeMieux in the fight for the Republican nomination.
LeMieux [@url@released a YouTube video@http://www.rollcall.com/news/lemieux_aims_past_gop_rivals_in_video_targeting_nelson-205519-1.html] of his own Wednesday that takes aim at Nelson, and Hasner has a Web ad hitting LeMieux on his connection to former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (I).
Haridopolos raised a substantial amount of money — more than $2.6 million — in the first quarter of this year, but he has been dogged by ethical issues.
