Outside Groups Spend Over $6 Million in Florida Special Election

National organizations have spent more than $6.4 million on independent expenditures for and against candidates in the Florida special election to fill the seat of the late Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla.  

Of the $6.4 in independent expenditures reported to the Federal Election Commission, almost 90% ($5.7 million) has been spent against the candidates.  

In the 13th Congressional District of Florida, David Jolly , R-Fla., is facing Alex Sink , D-Fla., in a March 11th special election. Their campaign finance reports, covering January 1 through February 19th are due Thursday. But outside organizations have already reported making $6,387,294 in independent expenditures for or against the candidates.  

Republican outside groups backing Jolly have reported spending $3,847,783. This includes $3,219,752 spent against Sink and $628,031 spent for Jolly. The groups making independent expenditures this year in the election include the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) $1,963,638; the Chamber of Commerce of the U.S. $800,000; the American Action Network Inc. $439,018; American Crossroads $415,814; the NRA of America Political Victory Fund $107,692; and the YG Network $121,621.  

Democratic outside groups backing Sink reported spending $2,539,511. This includes $2,465,873 spent against Jolly and $73,638 spent for Sink. The groups making independent expenditures this year in the election include the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) $1,554,482; the House Majority PAC $906,044; Women Vote $76,245; and Workers Voice $2,740.
