LGBT Congressional Staff Association Announces Leadership

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Congressional Staff Association elected Mitchell Rivard to serve as its new president.  

Rivard has been the deputy chief of staff and communications director for Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Mich., since Jan. 2015 and previously served as his communications director for over three years. He got his start in Washington in June 2011, interning for Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.  

The association announced its full board of directors for 2016. The vice president is Todd Sloves, who is a legislative assistant for Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y. The communications director is Ross Arnett, legislative assistant Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-Calif., and the professional development director is Robert Edmonson, Pelosi’s chief of staff.  

Other offices with staffers on the board are Reps. Alma Adams, D-N.C., Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz.  

The LGBT CSA works to advance of interests of LGBT staffers and promote personal development. It holds monthly speaker series, happy hours and career workshops.  

The February speaker, Human Rights Campaign’s political strategist JoDee Winterhof, spoke on Monday. On Thursday, the association is holding a happy hour at the Big Board on H Street NE, which is the first happy hour opportunity to meet the new members of the board.
