In the wake of President Barack Obama’s executive actions on guns, Ted Cruz has redoubled his plan to give away a shotgun.  

The Republican senator from Texas, who is spending the week in Iowa on the presidential campaign trail, has emailed his fundraising list with a raffle for a shotgun emblazoned with the Cruz campaign logo. The contest began on Dec. 18, and runs through Jan. 30, according to the contest’s rather lengthy and legalistic official rules.  

Wednesday afternoon’s version of the email says the raffle itself is free to enter, though there’s also a pitch for campaign contributions, but there’s obviously some list-building involved. You can’t win the shotgun itself if you can’t legally own one, though.  

“Arrangements must be made for delivery of the Prize to an appropriate federally licensed firearm dealer as required by federal and state law,” the rules say. “Winner must be located in the United States and eligible to pass background checks, including checks required for possession, as required by all applicable federal, state, and local law.”  

The alternative prize is a signed copy of Cruz’s book.
