The House Democratic Caucus has a new communications director.
Sarah Lovenheim will start working for Chairman Xavier Becerra, D-Calif., on July 22, she told colleagues in a farewell email Friday. She's leaving her current gig as head of communications for Young Invincibles, a self-described "millennial think tank and advocacy group," to return to Capitol Hill, where she worked between 2011 and 2013 as the deputy director of new media for then-Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
She started her career in politics as a journalist, working at National Journal's Hotline and for the Washington Post Opinion section.
Lovenheim is a significant hire for Becerra, who is seven months into his final term as caucus chairman. The veteran communicator with digital and social media savvy could help the California Democrat plot his next move in the leadership ranks, where he might have to get creative given a limited number of open seats currently at the table.
"She's very sharp and a smart hire," said Adam Jentleson, Reid's communications director.
