For those who not following anything but the debt ceiling negotiations this week, you missed out on a doozy of a virtual smackdown.
Earlier this week, Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) tossed off an angry email to Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) and CC’d all House leadership.
The next day the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, led by Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), held a press conference blasting West for his comments, while Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) has made buttons in support of Wasserman Schultz (and even changed his avatar to prove it).
On the West side, many conservatives have leapt to his defense, though there has been some confusion over whether he had apologized for the statements or whether Wasserman Schultz should apologize for the floor speech that started this whole thing.
So in a completely unhelpful contribution to the whole mess, HOH decided to animate the West email and place the two Florida lawmakers in a home entertainment retailer to face each other.
We are thinking of starting a whole animated series about the showdown.
