Rep. Raul Ruiz, the California Democrat and doctor known for saving ailing passengers on airplanes , can now add a new role to his resume: dad.
Ruiz and his wife, Monica, welcomed twin daughters, Sky and Sage, over the weekend, his office announced Monday afternoon.
"Words can't express the overwhelming joy we feel," Ruiz said in a statement. "We are both grateful to God for this blessing, and their safe delivery. Thank you to our family, friends, and our desert community for your love, prayers, and well wishes for our new family throughout this exciting time in our lives."
The congressman and his wife announced they were pregnant on election night , after Ruiz defeated his GOP opponent by an 8-point margin in his competitive, Palm Springs-based district.
Well-wishes from colleagues began to come in through Twitter after the news broke.
