Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid caused quite a stir a few years back when he called for the elimination of legal prostitution in Nevada, but it seems presidential candidates won't touch the issue.
We asked a handful of presidential campaigns to weigh in on the issue of the legality of brothels in the Silver State's more rural counties. While one spokesman was brave enough to say he did not know his candidate's position on the issue, none of the others contacted in our initial survey saw fit to respond.
Reid, a Nevada Democrat, gave a speech to the state Legislature in which he called for abolishing the state's legal prostitution system, and he subsequently said the brothel operations could hurt Las Vegas in its bid to host the 2016 Republican National Convention, which was ultimately awarded to Cleveland.
Sheri's Ranch, one of the best known of the establishments, took the step of responding to Reid .
The brothels were back in the headlines Tuesday night during the Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas because former NBA star and one-time Kardashian-in-law Lamar Odom was found unresponsive at one of them and brought via ambulance to Las Vegas.
But, still no word from presidential hopefuls from both sides of the aisle contacted ahead of the debate.
