New Orleans Chef To Feed House Republicans Wednesday Night

The House will work late into Wednesday night on amendments to the highway bill, but at least the chamber's Republicans will get a gourmet food break around suppertime. Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., has invited the entire GOP Conference to enjoy a cooking demonstration by Dickie Brennan, a restauranteur from New Orleans, part of which Scalise represents. Brennan will hold court in the Lincoln Room, the Republican members lounge off Statuary Hall, which Scalise refurbished after his whip election in June 2014. Sources tell HOH the NOLA celebrity will make at least two signature dishes of the region and the restaurants with which he's associated. On tap is turtle soup, a staple of Commander's Palace, the famous New Orleans eatery Brennan's family owns and operates. He will also be preparing shrimp tchefuncte, a favorite menu item at Palace Cafe, one of the four restaurants in the Dickie Brennan restaurant group. A source familiar with the event told HOH there was no special occasion for Brennan's visit on Wednesday evening: "Mr. Scalise just likes to bring New Orleans to the members," he said.   Related: See photos, follies, HOH Hits and Misses and more at Roll Call's new video site.
