In less than 12 hours and halfway around the globe, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema will take a stab at being the world’s fastest half Ironman athlete in this weekend’s world championship in France.

Sinema, a Democrat from Arizona, posted two photos to her Instagram story on Friday hinting at her participation in this year’s Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France. In one photo Sinema is surrounded by a group of females decked out in bright gear accompanied by the caption “Betty Squad” — a nod to her hot pink athletic couture designed by Betty Designs, an apparel company that makes “badasses feel beautiful,” according to Instagram.

She also sported Betty apparel in this year’s ACLI Capital Challenge when she flew through the finish line, proving to be the fastest woman in Congress. The Capital Challenge’s 3-mile distance was a light “snack” for the Arizonan who has completed three full Ironman races at this point. She broke a personal record in the latest race in New Zealand, finishing under 13 hours, according to Runner’s World.

“I’m faster now,” she recently told me at the Congressional Women’s Softball game — another athletic feat she engages in.

The vigorous 70.3 mile course will have its share of vistas that feature “a swim in the pristine waters of the Mediterranean Sea, a challenging bike course and a run course along Nice’s historic Promenade des Anglais waterfront,” the Ironman website boasts.

Participation in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship is “by qualification only” which means Sinema likely didn’t sign up because she was bored one day — she had to earn her spot.

We’re wishing best of luck to the senator ahead of the race — and lots of electrolytes afterward.
