Jimmy Kimmel Makes Mock ‘Toomey for Senate’ Ad

Comedian calls out Pennsylvania senator for his support of Trump

Jimmy Kimmel made a fake campaign ad for Pennsylvania Sen. Patrick J. Toomey that calls him out for sidestepping whether he’ll vote for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The GOP senator is being challenged by Democrat Katie McGinty, in a tossup race that could determine which party controls the Senate.

“He’s in a tight race,” Kimmel said of Toomey. “He says he thinks Trump is a terrible candidate but he might vote for him. Which is confusing to voters who want to know where he stands.”

The video has a pretend-Toomey voiceover that says, “I’m Pat Toomey. Let me be perfectly clear where I stand on Donald Trump. I think he’s a national embarrassment and a disgrace. A disgraceful embarrassment who I am proud to support for president of the United States. Donald Trump is exactly what this country needs.”

[Rating Change: Toomey to Tossup]

The video ends with Toomey fighting himself about whether he does or does not endorse Trump.

“Now because of pressure from the Trump Republican base, some of those who denounced him say, ‘Eh, I am still planning to vote for him,’” Kimmel said to open the segment. “They essentially un-un-endorsed him so as not to anger those who might vote for him.”

Kimmel said Republicans running for re-election are in tough spot.

“It’s like they found themselves in a ‘Saw’ movie just before Halloween,” the comedian said.

The Pennsylvania Democratic Party tweeted out the video on Friday and called it a ‘roast’ on the senator.
