D.C. diners can start chowing down on not one but two beefy tributes to 30-minute-meals maven Rachael Ray on the occasion of her 10-year anniversary in the publishing game.
Restaurateur Spike Mendelsohn today is expected to begin serving the commemorative Double Peppers & Onions Burger exclusively at his Capitol Hill location, Good Stuff Eatery, at 303 Pennsylvania Avenue SE.
A Mendelsohn aide told HOH the limited-time offering — featuring sautéed onions, Serrano peppers, provolone cheese and sun-dried tomato aioli — was inspired by a skillet pie he prepared in 2014 during an appearance on Ray’s show.
The two telegenic toques seem to cross paths at least a couple of times per year, whether it be at the annual South Beach Food & Wine Festival (in 2009 Mendelsohn took top honors at the burger bash, which Ray hosts) or around Ray’s demonstration table.
Good Stuff plans to keep Ray’s burger ($7.25) around until the end of October.
N.Y.-based Shake Shack is also tipping its hat to the longstanding Food Network star, carving out room at the Dupont Circle shop (1216 18th St. NW) for a Pickled Jalapeno Burger.
The specialty creation, available from Oct. 13 through Oct. 18, pads their signature cheeseburger with Gordy’s Thai basil jalapenos, fried shallots and Sriracha sauce. The tangy homage is expected to cost $6.19.
The recipes for both burgers are scheduled to appear in the November issue of Ray’s magazine, projected to hit newsstands Oct. 13.
