Sen. Bernard Sanders, I-Vt., underwent outpatient surgery Monday at George Washington University hospital to repair a hernia. Sanders, 74, is expected back at work in the Senate on Tuesday. "He's fine," Communications Director Michael Briggs told Roll Call.
The senator is also vying for the Democratic nomination for president against his former Senate colleague, ex-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley.
No causes determined for the "Bernia" as of yet, although Sanders, a former carpenter, has never been averse to heavy lifting.
