Climbing the Ladder in the 114th Congress

It’s the beginning of a new cycle on Capitol Hill. Which means it is high time to ditch that dead-end grind you’ve been merely tolerating, our most career-oriented of readers, and dive into whatever flavor of professional development tickles your fancy.

Now that the Grand Old Party stands poised to run the show on both sides of the Capitol, it only makes sense for aspiring Hill Climbers to hitch their wagons to rising stars — and there are plenty of avenues to explore these days.

Arts aficionado . Athletic supporter . Visionary . House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., does it all. The House Republican Conference is recruiting interns to beef up its online presence (think: social media, graphic design, video editing). The messaging operation — spearheaded by fast food alumna Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash. — specializes in serving up red meat to the party faithful.

Whether it’s this year, this decade or this lifetime, self-styled agitator Raúl R. Labrador, R-Idaho, will not (cannot?) stop until he’s carved out a place for himself in the leadership structure . Those who enjoy making waves in #ThisTown should climb aboard now.
