Senator Richard Burr’s, R-N.C., beloved Volkswagen Thing faced some problems on Wednesday, with the North Carolina Republican tweeting a photo of three men pushing his car on the side of a road.
Burr has owned the car for more than two decades. He originally bought it and another for his sons when they were teenagers. They eventually moved on to other cars, but Burr decided to hold onto one of them, which he continues to drive around the capital. Its ramshackle and oddball appearance attracts a lot of attention as the senator drives around.
The Thing is Volkswagen's commercial American version of a German World War II military vehicle. VW only sold the car in the U.S. market for two years.
