Democratic Whip Richard J. Durbin and Sen. Mark S. Kirk got their time to gloat on behalf of all Chicagoans when Ohio senators paid off their respective World Series bets.

On Nov. 2, the Chicago Cubs clinched the World Series for the first time in 108 years by beating the Cleveland Indians, 8-7, in a Game 7 thriller.

“I’ve never gone through the range of emotions in six days than I did celebrating the Cubs and then sitting through the election in Chicago,” Durbin said while he received his end of the bet on Thusday.

Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown brought Durbin beer from Cleveland’s Platform Brewing Company.

“There were so many Cubs fans,” said Brown, who was at the final game in Cleveland.

“There’s all these rich people in Chicago and we know that the Cubs are the rich guys of north Chicago — white guys team — and we know that the Cubs have a lot of rich people that flew to Cleveland,” Brown said.

“The Cubs won fair and square but it was one of the best series ever. It was so much fun. The eighth inning was so great for Cleveland fans and the tenth inning was so great for Cubs fans,” he said.

Brown said he hates the New York Yankees and his personal email address begins with “DamnYankees.”

“I like the Cubs, I love Wrigley field. My wife and I went to Wrigley Field on our honeymoon,” Brown said. “These teams are both so good and so young that come 2017, Durbin’s going to be paying me off with Chicago beer.”

Durbin followed with his own remarks.

“This was a dream come true. We couldn’t have played a better team until the bitter end,” he said. “Next year, maybe we’ll be back in Cleveland and back at Wrigley.”

Also on Thursday, Sen. Rob Portman brought Great Lakes Oktoberfest beer from Cleveland’s Great Lakes Brewing Company to Kirk in his office.

Kirk’s office displayed a full-sized W flag like the one the Cubs fly after a win, to celebrate the championship.
