Maryland Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin marked his 72nd birthday Monday by incorporating himself into where the rubber officially meets the recreational road along the Easter Shore.
The Democrat participated in the christening of the Ben Cardin Trail, a newly completed 1.8-mile strip of asphalt extending the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal Trail into Maryland. The multi-use pathway stretches nearly 20 miles, connecting Chesapeake City, Md., with Delaware City, Del.
The existing portion of the jogging/biking/exercise route is named after Michael N. Castle, a former House Republican and Delaware governor.
This latest addition was attributed to Cardin as a thank-you for ferreting out the funding required to make the aforementioned ends meet.
