You’re sitting at home watching one of your favorite reality television competition programs when the moment of truth arrives. Will the contestant you root for receive a rose/save/winning house vote or be sent home, relegated to the dustbin of reality TV history?

For those of us who’ve spent hours emotionally invested in the fates of these people it can be pretty upsetting when things don’t work out, which is what happened to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after watching the judges on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” send queen Nina West packing. The freshman Democrat from the Bronx took to social media, like many of us would do, to vent her frustration with the decision to eliminate West.

“No spoilers, but but to the queen that went home this week, just know how important you are to the bigger picture, and I’m so proud of you and your fundamental kindness and goodness,” told her followers on Instagram, while catching up with her DVR this weekend. She said the decision made her “so sad.”

As anyone who watches “Game of Thrones” can tell you, sometimes the creatives behind your favorite TV shows don’t make the best decisions — don’t get me started on the Season 8 pacing issues! But because of social media, we can watch these reactions in real time, allowing fans to commiserate or argue over an outcome.

Nina West, the stage name of Andrew Levitt, is a prominent LGBTQ activist who’s performed shows to raise money for nonprofits assisting the community. West told Out Magazine she’s raised more than $2.5 million in Ohio.
