Former Carper and Romney Aide Opens Consulting Firm

Longtime Washington lobbyist and policy adviser Tom Lawler is launching his own consulting shop, Lawler Strategies, with an eye to catering to clients on both sides of the political aisle.

Lawler’s bipartisan focus is not surprising given his previous posts, which include chief policy adviser to Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) and deputy director of state-federal relations for then-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, now a GOP presidential hopeful.

Most recently, Lawler was a principal at the Accord Group, a government affairs consulting firm where he specialized in energy and environmental issues. On Carper’s staff, Lawler served as chief policy adviser on energy and environmental issues.

He also was director of public policy for Natsource, an asset management and advisory services firm dealing in global renewable energy and carbon emissions trading. Before that, he worked as a policy analyst for the National Governors Association.

On Romney’s staff, Lawler worked with the Massachusetts Congressional delegation on transportation, environmental and agricultural issues.
