Grace Garcia, a former longtime Clinton operative, died Monday in a car accident in Waxahachie, Texas, according to a release from Annie's List, where she served as executive director.
"It is with a tremendous sense of loss that we announce the passing of our executive director and leader Grace Garcia, who lost her life in a car accident Monday afternoon," Annie's List Board Chair Amber Anderson Mostyn said in a statement. "Another staffer was injured in the crash and is in the intensive care unit at Parkland Hospital."
Annie's List is a group that supports female Democratic candidates who back abortion rights for state office in Texas.
Garcia worked in various capacities for the 1992 Clinton campaign and in the administration, according to her LinkedIn profile. She went on to serve as a senior adviser at the State Department during Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's tenure. In the interim between the Clinton and Obama administrations, she was a special projects director at the advertising firm GSD&M and ran her own consulting firm, Grace Garcia & Associates.
Her most recent job was at Annie's List.
"Grace Garcia was the passionate, tough, visionary leader we needed at Annie's List," Mostyn said. "The best possible tribute to her life is to continue the work Grace started on behalf of Annie's List and women across Texas. Thoughts, prayers and privacy are appreciated at this time."
