Ex-Rep. Tom Perriello to Head CAP Action Fund

Former Rep. Tom Perriello (D-Va.) has landed a new gig at the Center for American Progress’ advocacy unit.

The one-term ex-Member who lost in 2010 will serve as president of the Center for American Progress Action Fund.

“Tom has a long record of promoting progressive ideas and making real change, and we are excited to bring his experience and integrity to American Progress,” CAP President Neera Tanden said in a statement.

In the same statement, Perriello added: “This is a critical moment for our country to return to values of basic fairness and opportunity that are bigger than any election cycle.”

On the Hill, Perriello served on the Transportation and Infrastructure and Veterans’ Affairs panels. As a former Member of Congress, Perriello is currently under a one-year ban on lobbying Congress. That ban is set to expire Jan. 3.

In addition, Tara McGuinness, most recently vice president and director of the Think Progress War Room at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, will be a senior vice president.

McGuinness previously worked for Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and as a press secretary on the 2004 presidential campaign of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.).
