Missouri attorney Ed Martin released a poll Thursday showing him with a comfortable lead over former Ambassador Ann Wagner, his only GOP primary opponent for the open seat in Missouri’s 2nd district. The seat opened when Rep. Todd Akin (R) announced his bid for Senate.
In the poll of likely GOP primary voters in the district conducted by the GOP firm American Viewpoint, Martin led Wager 38 percent to 16 percent, with 45 percent undecided. Martin, who came close to unseating Rep. Russ Carnahan (D) in the Show-Me State’s 3rd district in 2010, also had a substantial edge in name identification among likely primary voters. Sixty-one percent were aware of Martin while 39 percent were aware of Wagner.
Democrats pondering a bid are likely waiting to see whether Carnahan, whose 3rd district was essentially eliminated during the redistricting process, will decide to run in the new 2nd.
