Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said today that his district office received a threat.
At about 1 p.m. Pacific time, the Vista office received a phone call from an individual reporting that a package had been delivered that would explode.
According to Issa’s statement, the phone call followed a recent protest at the office associated with MoveOn.org and Occupy North County, as well as counter-protesters.
After the office was evacuated and law enforcement was informed, the area was deemed safe.
“I understand the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has determined that the item left behind does not pose an actual threat,” Issa said. “All staff members who were working in the office today are safe, and I understand no other individuals have been harmed in this incident.”
Issa also indicated that the sheriff’s office will continue to investigate the situation.
