Connecticut Senate Hopeful William Tong Announces Big-League Campaign Hires
William Tong, the Connecticut Senate hopeful who raised more than $550,000 in the second quarter, announced his campaign team Tuesday with a roster that included big names such as Jim Jordan and Fred Yang.
Tong, a Connecticut state Representative, hired Marc Bradley as his campaign manager. He brought on Jordan, Miriam Hess and Jimmy Siegel to do his campaign’s media. Jordan managed the presidential campaign of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) in 2004 and is one of the leaders of the Majority Political Action Committee, a Democratic super PAC. Hess and Siegel worked on then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D) campaign for the White House.
For polling, Tong hired renowned Democratic pollster Fred Yang of Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group. Yang has worked on hundreds of competitive races. Kevin Mack will manage direct mail.
“This is a tier one team of political professionals who know how to win. There is no doubt my campaign team is the strongest in the race,” Tong said in a statement. “Yesterday, I announced a major league fundraising total. Today, I’m announcing a major league campaign team.”
Tong faces Rep. Christopher Murphy and former Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz in the Democratic primary for the open Senate seat in the Nutmeg State. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I) has said he will retire instead of seek a fifth term.
