Connecticut state Rep. William Tong is joining two other Democrats in seeking their party’s nomination in the 2012 race to succeed retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman (I), the Associated Press reported Sunday.
Tong made his announcement Sunday on WFSB-TV’s “Face the State.” Three-term Rep. Christopher Murphy and former Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz have already announced their bids for the Democratic nomination.
Linda McMahon, the former wrestling executive who spent $50 million on a failed 2010 Senate run, is viewed as the top Republican considering entering the race for Lieberman’s seat.
Vice President Joe Biden waits to conduct a mock swearing-in ceremony with Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, in the Capitol's Old Senate Chamber, December 2, 2014. Schatz was sworn in to serve the remainder of his term since he was appointed to the seat after Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, passed away.
