Republican Rep. Howard Coble, 81, was admitted to a North Carolina hospital Tuesday after suffering from severe dizziness over the past few weeks.
“He just felt like he was going to faint again this morning when he was getting ready to go to D.C. so we took him to the hospital,” Coble Chief of Staff Ed McDonald said.
McDonald told CQ Roll Call that the congressman’s vital signs are good and he’s staying in the Greensboro, N.C., hospital overnight out of an abundance of caution.
“We’re still awaiting the results of the CT scan,” McDonald said. “They probably could have sent him home, but they’re being cautious.”
The North Carolina lawmaker is expected to be released from the hospital on Wednesday, but it remains unknown if he will subsequently travel to Washington, D.C.
Coble, serving his 15th term, was previously hospitalized with a respiratory illness in December of 2011.
