CO Ballot Proposal to Restrict Oil &Gas Withdrawn

The Denver Business Journal reports that "the number of proposed ballot initiatives focused on oil and gas operations in Colorado stands at 11 now that an early contender, filed in February, has dropped out of consideration."

"Proposed Initiative 82, filed in February, has been abandoned by its backers, according to a motion filed Tuesday with the Colorado Supreme Court by Boulder attorney Katherine Toan."

The piece continues: "As proposed, the proposed statewide ballot measure would have written into the state Constitution language stating that 'not withstanding any other provision of law, local governments in Colorado may place restrictions on the time, place or method of oil-and-gas development, including but not limited to the use of hydraulic fracturing, that are intended to protect their communities and citizens.'”
