HOH's One-Minute Recess: Liebs and Friends in the Morning

On Thursday, New Haven, Conn., morning radio jocks Chaz and AJ broadcast from the conference room of guest deejay Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) for their annual Washington, D.C., show.

The Liebs brought all his best Senate friends to chat, including Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and his sidekick Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), velvet-voiced Senate Chaplain Barry Black, Senate Historian Don Ritchie and many, many more!

Here’s what we learned:

Reid prefers the Killers to Black Sabbath. An interesting choice, sir, but we detect a slight Nevada bias.

He also said he was a wee bit shocked when the Liebs was tapped to be former Vice President Al Gore’s running mate. The Liebs said he was also surprised when it happened.

Another fun and uncomfortable moment was when Chaz made McCain angry. He asked McCain about his choice of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) to be his running mate in 2008.

“You created this political monster,” Chaz said.

“Oh really,” McCain returned. And then needle scratched on the record as McCain and Graham broke bottles to get ready for the rumble.

Black and newbie Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) also popped by the makeshift studio. Black said he and Blumenthal are the Monday morning “tag team” to open the Senate.

Another fun story: Blumenthal was late to open the Senate one Monday and got a stern talking to from the Majority Leader. Apparently, he was tardy because he was a guest on Chaz and AJ’s show.

But Blumenthal clearly knows the “Bro Code” because he did not sell out the deejays to save his own skin. However, when the jocks brought it up, he did say, “That was your fault.”

In other news, Black says he didn’t do any special preparation for the May 21 apocalypse because he is always prepared for the end of the world.
