Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, in a recorded message released today, said that she wants to get back to work representing Arizona in Congress.
In the recorded message addressed to her constituents and posted on the Democrat's Facebook page Giffords, speaking in short phrases, said, "I want to get back to work. Representing Arizona is my honor."
"I'm getting stronger. I'm getting better," she said. "It has been a hard year — for all of us. Thinking of that day makes me sad. Six people died. Six innocent people. So many people hurt. There is lot to say. I will speak better."
She stated that she misses Tucson and her constituents, but that her "staff is there to help you. They keep me informed on your behalf."
Her office confirmed that the message was not recorded in one continuous take but rather in several short clips.
Within an hour of the recording being shared on the Facebook page the post received nearly 400 likes, was linked to by more than 100 people and was commented on about 100 times, with people leaving words of encouragement and thanking Giffords for her inspiration.
Giffords is recovering from a gunshot wound to the head sustained Jan. 8 and, according to a report on ABC News' "20/20" Monday night, is still having trouble forming words and sentences.
"Gabby," a memoir written by Giffords and her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, was released today.
