Defense policy analysis, commentary and discussion.Businessman Andrew Hosmer announced Monday he’s running for Congress in New Hampshire’s 1st district.
He faces former Rep. Carol Shea-Porter and former financial executive Joanne Dowdell in the Democratic primary to take on freshman Rep. Frank Guinta (R).
“Our country is at a critical crossroads, and the future is at stake,” Hosmer said in a statement. “The times call for real, commonsense leaders, not for career politicians like Frank Guinta who are more interested in playing political games than they are with creating new jobs and growing our economy.”
Hosmer is the executive manager of a car dealership with locations across New Hampshire, according to a campaign news release.
He ran for a seat in the state Senate in 2010, losing the general election by more than 20 points. Guinta beat Shea-Porter in 2010, 54 percent to 42 percent.
Although President Barack Obama won the Granite State with 54 percent of the vote in 2008, his approval rating during the first half of this year was just 40 percent, according to new data released Monday by the Gallup Organization.
