Roland Burris took to the Senate floor</a> this morning with a poem that he penned in the spirit of the season. The Illinois Democrat said he wanted to share good cheer with Democrats and Republicans alike but we cant imagine that the GOPs hearts were warmed by some of the lines. Like good fences, shoveled sidewalks make good neighbors better tell the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Neighbors of the NRSCs headquarters on Second Street Northeast are complaining that the sidewalk along one side of the large building hadnt been shoveled of the weekends record snowfall until this morning. A ticked-off neighbor tells HOH that several pedestrians attempting to walk along the icy stretch along E Street on Sunday slipped, and many were cursing under their breaths at the display of unneighborliness.
Everyone else on the block had cleared their walks, the neighbor says.
NRSC spokesman Brian Walsh tells HOH that the organization didnt mean to be the neighborhood Grinch: Workers werent able to cut through the packed snow on Sunday, so they salted it and then cleared away the ice on Monday morning, he says.
Better late than never, but were guessing the NRSC is out of luck if they need to borrow a cup of sugar anytime soon.
