Clinton, Gates, Mullen to Testify Dec. 2 on Afghanistan
The House Foreign Affairs Committee on Dec. 2 will hear testimony from an all-star panel of administration officials regarding President Barack Obamas new Afghanistan war strategy.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Admiral Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, are set to appear before the panel Dec. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
The meeting comes a day after Obama addresses the nation on how he plans to proceed in Afghanistan. Obama is expected to call for 34,000 more troops and, in his speech, place a heavy emphasis on an exit strategy.
The testimony is likely to appease Congressional Republicans who for weeks have been demanding Obamas top military aides testify on Capitol Hill on the strategy.
