Speaker Nancy Pelosis recent attempt to expand the Democratic ranks was a no-go, despite having a powerful ally. The California Democrat told reporters Thursday that she hoped her Republican son-in-law would be so impressed by having his favorite band, U2, wish him a happy birthday during their Tuesday night concert that he would change his political stripes in gratitude.
Pelosi noted that U2 singer Bono slipped in the shout-out, Happy Birthday, Michael, during the bands performance of With or Without You. Pelosis daughter, Jacqueline, and son-in-law, Michael Kenneally, had told Bono that the tune was their song.
Kenneally was apparently thrilled ... but not enough to comply with his mother-in-laws request.
I said to him, You should change your registration because I took you to that concert. You owe me major, Pelosi relayed to reporters. He wasnt interested.
