U2 frontman Bono hearts Congress — and the feeling is clearly mutual. Members turned out for the rock band’s show Tuesday night at FedEx Field, and Bono returned the compliment by dedicating songs to them and giving them shout-outs from the spotlight.

Official Washington faces in the audience included Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.).

Bono dedicated his anthem of unity, “One,” to Congress; praised former President George W. Bush for his work on AIDS relief; dedicated the hopeful “New Year’s Day” to the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.); and acknowledged Pelosi.

Our favorite tribute, though, was Bono’s description of his buddy Sen. Patrick Leahy as the “John Wayne of D.C.”

Expect to see the Vermont Democrat rocking a 10-gallon hat in the near future.

Laugh Factory. While D.C. notables will aim for laughs at tonight’s “Funniest Celebrity in Washington” contest at the DC Improv, two Senate staffers also are hoping to tickle some funny bones at the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse in Northern Virginia.

Scott Muschett, a doorkeeper for the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, and John Quirk, a staffer for the Senate Armed Services Committee, will take the stage in the “Funniest Fed” contest, which sees 32 D.C.-area government employees battling it out in a multiweek stand-up comedy competition.

Muschett and Quirk are two of three full-time Senate staffers taking part in the contest — Kate Taylor, who works for Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), already made it through the first round when she competed Sept. 16.

Roll Call chatted with all three Senate contestants earlier this month, and while Muschett and Quirk were relatively tight-lipped about their actual routines, both promised nothing would be off limits (so long as it’s funny).

“I’ve been trying to run some of my stuff by [Vice President Joseph] Biden, but he’s never on Facebook anymore,” Quirk joked.
