NRSC Raises $3 Million in August

August may be a slow time on Capitol Hill but the National Republican Senatorial Committee was busy raising just under $3.1 million during the month, according to reports set to be filed with the Federal Election Commission.

That haul was more than the $2.75 million the committee raised in July but less than the $3.4 million raised in June.

The committee spent $2.4 million last month and had $5.1 million cash on hand as of Aug. 31, $2 million less than the committee had at this point last cycle.

So far this cycle the NRSC has raised over $26.5 million and has no remaining debt from 2008.

August fundraising totals for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee were unavailable Thursday afternoon. The Democratic committee had about $7.2 million cash on hand as of July 31 and was carrying about $3.3 million in debt.

At this same point in the 2008 cycle, the NRSC had raised just under $20.5 million with $2.4 million of that coming in during August. At the end of August 2007, the NRSC had $7.1 million in cash on hand and at the end of August 2005, when Republicans still controlled Congress and the White House, the committee had $8.2 million cash on hand.

“As more and more Americans realize the significance of next year’s midterm elections and the need to restore checks and balances to a Congress currently run entirely by the Democrats, we continue to take the necessary steps to ensure our candidates and incumbents will have the necessary financial resources to compete in races across the country,” said NRSC Executive Director Rob Jesmer.

NRSC Chairman John Cornyn (Texas) traveled to Florida, New York, California and other states over the August recess.
