Reid Raises More Than $3 Million

Sen. Harry Reid (D) raised $3.25 million between April 1 and June 30 and ended the second quarter with $7.33 million in cash on hand 16 months from the 2010 election, the Nevadan’s campaign announced Tuesday.
Reid’s campaign manager, Brandon Hall, said in a news release that the fundraising haul demonstrates the momentum Reid is gaining in the state.
But Republicans, including National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (Texas), have continued to highlight the Majority Leader’s weak early polling numbers as a sign that they have an opportunity in the Silver State.
A survey done in May for the Las Vegas Review-Journal showed that half of Nevadans had an unfavorable view of Reid, and just 35 percent of voters would vote to re-elect the four-term Senator.
But Republicans have yet to field a candidate. Plus, with news of Sen. John Ensign’s (R-Nev.) extramarital affair still making headlines a month after his initial press conference, some observers have wondered if GOP recruiting efforts have been undermined in Nevada until Ensign moves out of the limelight. And if that doesn’t happen until later in the election cycle, Reid may draw only token opposition in 2010.
