It was a gals kind of weekend, with the high-powered women of Washington taking advantage of the fine weather to primp and chow down.
An HOH spy spotted Speaker Nancy Pelosi visiting the hair salon in Georgetowns Four Seasons Hotel. The always-well-coiffed California Democrat, dressed in business casual attire, chatted with salon staff and guests. Apparently, the salon is the Palm of the X-chromosome set: former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright (yoga pants, no makeup) also was finishing her appointment at about the same time as Pelosi, although our spy didnt see the two cross paths.
And across town, former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day OConnor was passing judgment of a different kind than she did during her days on the high court, appearing to enjoy her lunch at Good Stuff Eatery on Capitol Hill. The ladylike justice, who sat with another woman, used a knife and fork to corral her messy burger.
What, No Toaster? The woman of the weekend was former Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-Calif.), who reportedly got hitched on Saturday to retired Delta Airlines pilot James Cieslak. The newly confirmed undersecretary of State for arms control and international security was wed at her home in Washington, and she got the ultimate status present to celebrate her nuptials: a much-coveted wedding announcement in the New York Times.
