Hastert to Join Dickstein Shapiro

May 30, 2008, 10:31 a.m.

Former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) is expected to join the law and lobbying firm Dickstein Shapiro next month. An announcement is expected on Monday.

The Illinois Republican resigned on Nov. 26, 2007, ending a 21-year Congressional career.

“We have no signed agreement with them at this moment,” said Andrew Zausner, head of the firm’s lobbying practice. “I’ve worked with him off and on for years.”

But sources with knowledge of the hiring have confirmed that a deal with Hastert, who was Speaker from the 106th to 109th Congresses, was reached earlier this week.

At least one of Hastert’s former senior staffers is expected to join him at Dickstein.

The Hastert pickup would be the second lawmaker in as many months for Dickstein.

Rep. Albert Wynn (D-Md.) will join the firm on Monday as well. Wynn announced in March that he was stepping down, following his primary loss to nonprofit executive Donna Edwards. Wynn will be joined by his former chief of staff, Curt Clifton.
