Comedic duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are famous for their love of marijuana, and they told HOH that they would love the chance to light up alongside two of Washingtons most famous residents.
Marin and Chong better known as Cheech and Chong received the Trailblazer Award at the Marijuana Policy Projects 15th anniversary gala at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill on Wednesday night. And when HOH chatted with the pair before the sit-down dinner, we asked which Washingtonians theyd most like to get high with.
While Cheech said newbie Fox News analyst Sarah Palin is most in need of a joint, hed most like to smoke the herb with President Barack Obama.
Hed know what to do, and hed probably have good music, Cheech said. We could play some basketball.
Chong said hed most like to light up with Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), a longtime supporter of marijuana legalization.
Hes a smoker from way back, Chong said. Hed have the good stuff.
So where does the duo like to smoke when they come to Washington? Cheech couldnt name a specific spot, but he said D.C. has plenty of rooftops with great views that fit the bill. Chong agreed he likes to get high on rooftops or in basements because the only way I can get high is if Im hiding, he joked but he picked the very public Lincoln Memorial as his favorite spot.
Its just open air, and you can really get behind what he was doing, Chong said of the 16th president.
Cheech and Chong werent the only VIPs advocating for marijuana Wednesday night. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) spoke at the dinner and joked that he was the only Member of Congress brave enough to show up.
Maybe that says something about my political judgement, Cohen said. I hope not. ... I thought it was high time somebody other than Barney Frank came to speak on issues like this.
Cohen joked that marijuana advocates might have an easier time getting pot legalized if they changed its name to something such as Jim Beam or Johnnie Walker.
You need to get a good name for it, he said. Something that gets in the American bloodstream.
