Senate Approves McHugh for Army Post

The Senate unanimously approved the nomination of Rep. John McHugh (R-N.Y.) to be secretary of the Army on Wednesday, just hours after a pair of GOP Senators dropped their hold on the nominee.McHugh, a nine-term Republican from upstate New York, was unanimously approved by the Armed Services Committee last month. But his nomination was blocked by Kansas Sens. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback, who sought assurances from the Obama administration that detainees from the prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, would not be sent to Fort Leavenworth, Kan. After speaking with administration officials over the last week, the two Republicans dropped their hold Wednesday.
