House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told Democratic Members Thursday morning that a vote on the $789 billion economic stimulus measure will occur Friday, according to Democratic leadership aides.
The House-Senate conference committees bill is still being drafted. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was scheduled to hold her weekly press briefing Thursday morning but postponed it, citing President Barack Obamas midday visit to the Capitol.
Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said his chamber could begin considering the package on Thursday. Senate votes are expected to follow House passage of the conference report.
It is the leaders intention to bring for consideration today the economic recovery and reinvestment act conference report, Durbin said in a statement on the Senate floor.
But Durbin also noted that leadership staffers are continuing to work on [the bill] as we speak.
