Memorial Set for Former Aide Ashley Turton

Updated: 7:05 p.m.

A memorial service for Ashley Turton, a well-known lobbyist and former Hill staffer found dead in her car Monday morning, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church (1313 New York Ave. NW).

The family has requested that instead of sending flowers, donations be made to the Children of Ashley Turton Memorial Education Fund. She had twin 4-year-olds and a 2-year-old.

Turton, 37, died inside her 2008 BMW X5, which was discovered on fire in her row house garage near Eastern Market. Medical examiners have yet to determine the cause of death, but Metropolitan Police Department investigators suspect a low-speed crash sparked the fire that engulfed her car.

As of press time, the MPD investigation was ongoing, and officers in the press office refused to comment on the case or share updated findings.

Beverly Fields, spokeswoman at the District’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, confirmed an autopsy was completed the evening of Turton’s death but said examiners are still awaiting results.

Turton was the former chief of staff to Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and the wife of White House liaison to the House of Representatives Dan Turton. She worked as a lobbyist for the Raleigh, N.C.-based utility giant Progress Energy.
