Rep.-elect Tom Reed’s swearing-in has been delayed because he is still in the hospital. Reed was rushed there Sunday night after he awoke feeling ill.
Though Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Tuesday that she will swear in Rep.-elect Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) around 4 p.m., she will not swear in Reed on Tuesday. Stutzman won a special electon to fill ex-Rep. Mark Souder’s (R) vacated seat and Reed, a New York Democrat, won a special election to fill ex-Rep. Eric Massa’s (D) seat.
“I feel great and I am ready to get to work, but I am told that standard procedure in cases like this is bed rest as the medication does its job,” Reed said in a statement.
“While I am anxious to be released, I have to listen to the doctors. The people of the 29th District have been without representation in the House for more than eight months. We hope to take the oath as soon as possible. My hope is that this will happen in a day or two.”
